Earthquakes

So I was watching the news, and they said something about an “earthquake”. I didn’t know what that meant, so I looked it up. Turns out an earthquake is exactly what it sounds like. When everything breaks. Cities get torn down in minutes. Huge waves swamp entire towns. One happened in a place called Haiti not too long ago, another in Japan.

Who caused it? No one caused it. It just kind of happened. I have caused destruction like this – heck, I’ve caused destruction exactly like this before – but I’ve always done it with a purpose in mind. A goal. And there was a way that it all seemed to build up into…I don’t know. A story.

I don’t know where I fit into all of this. What is the point in being wicked if evil things happen without me lifting a finger? Maybe when I am Wizard, I will have the ability to channel this chaos more effectively. Now, it just all feels… wrong.

One thing’s for sure, I need to get this campaign underway. I will be selecting my manager soon.

One could argue that the lack of sense in destruction is precisely why we need someone like you in charge. Perhaps you could find a way to prevent natural earthquakes, so that the only destruction we face is that which you create. This world lacks reason. If you become wizard, you could change that.

Earthquakes are but one of many natural forces the world sees fit to throw at us. Hurricanes, typhoons, mud slides, storms, volcanos… they all rise up to try and take us out sooner or later, more in some places than others. Sometimes it almost as if the world itself has a grudge against us, but this is an illusion: there is no malice in any of these actions. There is noone to blame but the natural cycle of a very fractious planet and thus they are not ‘evil’ in that way. It is random chaos but there’s no actual evil in it. Indeed, many of them are the same forces that created out planet in the first place.

But we are GOOD at surviving such things. We have survived earthquakes and volcanos for millennia. We have fought back against typhoons. These forces are NOTHING compared to the average evil which can stew within the human mind on a daily basis. Demons have nothing on us in terms of maliciousness and potential. Perhaps you could control it like that when you gain the power you desire. But whether you do or not understand that, if you go about it right, you WILL have the power of millions at your beck and call. USE that potential to your advantage, and there’s no end to what you can accomplish.

These forces have no goal. They just happen. Many people in this world die serving no purpose thanks to these forces, it’s just the sad truth of life here.

Nothing really special about it, unless you believe in some supernatural significance related to the disasters.

You do realize you all sound like boot-lickers, yes? Yes-men are not good campaign planners.

In this world, death is everywhere. Certainly much more common than it was in your land of Oz.

Really, in comparison, this place is a bit, well.

    Uncouth.

Competition is not necessarily a bad thing. Perhaps it could even push you to be more evil than you ever have before.
